2.2 Installation
Epica Distribution Matrix enclosures can be mounted in a standard EIA 19 in.
(48.26 cm) rack. Placing an Epica enclosure in a rack requires more than one
person.
Important
: The system requires at least one empty rack unit (3 inches is
recommended) above and below the enclosure to allow adequate airflow.
Items needed for rack installation:

Screws that fit your rack for mounting the enclosure(s)

Surge-protectors – highly recommended

Link cables and equipment (included with multi-enclosure systems)

A laptop computer or PC with an RS-232 null modem cable or an
RS-422 cable (for communication with the Epica via the serial port)
Installation Procedure
The following is a list of installation recommendations:

Write the serial number (normally located on rear of enclosure) in an easily
accessible location before installing the Epica

in a rack.
ä
Use an earth-grounded power cord/system with the Epica.
ä
Attach all power cords to a single surge protector and/or an AC line
conditioner.
ä
Apply power to the Epica enclosure(s) before applying power to its source
and destination devices (see the power-up sequence on page 6-1).
