NBX 100 Dial Plan
An ASCII text file known as the Dial Plan configuration file defines each
NBX 100 Dial Plan. You import a Dial Plan configuration file to provide the
NBX 100 with a set of operating instructions for managing the telephone
system. If you make changes to the currently loaded instructions (by using
NetSet, for example) you can export the Dial Plan configuration file to
save it. You can also make changes by editing the configuration file using
any ASCII editor such as Notepad, and then importing the modified file.
You can re-use a given configuration file on many systems quickly and
easily.
The NBX 100 ships with several default Dial Plan configuration files,
typically a 3-digit and a 4-digit file for each country. In addition, the file
samples.txt contains several examples illustrating how you can configure
the Dial Plan configuration file to control how the NBX 100 manages
incoming and outgoing calls.
The 3-digit Dial Plan configuration file supports systems using 3-digit
extensions and the 4-digit file supports 4-digit extensions. In other ways,
the two types of configuration files are very similar.
Decide whether you want a three-digit or four-digit dial plan
before
you
create the dial plan, auto discover or manually add telephones or other
devices to the NBX 100.
Normally, you completely configure a dial plan before you start to use the
NBX 100 to control the telephones. Although you can make minor
changes later, major changes in the dial plan could disrupt the system and
require reconfiguration.
When you import a dial plan, some parameters of the system change
immediately; others change only when you either purge the database
(which reverts the system to the default 3-digit plan) or reboot the NBX
100. 3Com recommends that you reboot the NBX 100 each time you
change the dial plan.
