Installing LAN
Connections
After completing IP connectivity, install the LAN connections. These
connections may be a single chassis to external hubs or a multi-chassis
configuration.
Connecting LAN
Cables — Single
Chassis to External
Hubs
You can connect the NBX 100 to an existing LAN by connecting either the
NBX 100 NCP or an NBX 100 8-port Hub card to a LAN hub or switch.
You do not need to connect NBX 100 cards to each other within a
chassis; they are connected by the chassis backplane.
Do not connect telephone lines or telephones yet.
Connect a 10BASE-T UTP cable from the Uplink connector on the NBX
100 NCP to any 10BASE-T port on the external Ethernet hub or switch.
To use a 10BASE-T UTP cable to connect an NBX 100 Hub card to an
external hub or switch, you must use a cable where the transmit and
receive wire pairs have been crossed over to maintain correct signal
polarity.
Connecting LAN
Cables —
Multi-Chassis
Configuration
If the system contains more than one NBX 100 chassis, each additional
chassis must have an NBX 100 Hub card to connect chassis to chassis.
Only one chassis has an NCP and disk drive.
If you are using the NBX NCP to connect to external hubs, you can use
either the call processor’s 10BASE2 port or the Uplink port, a 10BASE-T
port that is internally crossed over to maintain proper line polarity when
connecting from hub to hub. When using the Uplink port, be sure you
connect to a standard port on the external hub, not a port that is crossed
over.
When using external hubs, switches, or routers, be sure that lines
connecting to the NCP’s 10BASE2 port or the Uplink port are
programmed for 10-BASE-T half duplex operation at the external hub,
switch, or router end of the connection.
