This chapter describes how to add and configure either a T1, E1, or BRI
Digital Line Card to handle a T1 or E1 line (with one span each) or a BRI
line (4 BRI spans for each BRI card added).
The NBX
®
100 can accommodate up to three T1/E1 cards or nine BRI
cards. An additional restriction applies to the number of cards in any one
chassis:
■
three T1 or E1 cards, in any combination, provided that you connect
them using MDI-X ports.
■
one T1 or E1 card, if you connect the card using the NBX 100
backplane.
■
three BRI cards (regardless of the connection method)
Some people refer to a T1 or E1 Digital Line Card using the category
name TEP (
T
1,
E
1, ISDN
P
RI) to include both. The NBX 100 can
accommodate:
■
T1 cards using E&M robbed-bit signaling (sometimes referred to as
“Standard T1”).
■
T1 cards using ISDN PRI (Primary Rate Interface) signaling.
■
E1 cards using ISDN PRI signaling.
By default, the NBX 100 auto-discovers a T1 card as T1 E&M, and an E1
card as ISDN PRI.
