The Belt does not need to be pulled tight before insertion into the Block – remember that the
Y Motor and Y Idler modules are still loose and must be tightened later – this will remove the
slack in the belt at a later stage as will the GT2 Belt Tension Spring.
Now that the Y Trolley, Y Motor, Y Idler and Y Belt are fitted, turn your printer frame over so
that it is sitting flat on your bench. We are now going to adjust and tighten the Y Axis Smooth
Rod Mounts, Y Motor and Y Idler into their final positions. Please note the dimensions and
alignment in the following images so that everything is in the correct position to provide the
correct build volume and so that smooth, unobstructed linear travel is achieved for the Y Axis
(build plate):
Measure and locate the front left Y Rod Bracket so that there is 95mm between the inside of
the base frame and the outermost surface of the left side smooth rod. Tighten the Y Rod
Bracket while pushing down on it to lock it in place flat to the frame base. Repeat the
process for the other end of this rod, at the rear of the frame with the same 95mm distance
so that the smooth rod is parallel with the base frame.
Turn your frame over so that you can access the underside of the machine. Gently slide the
bed trolley back and forth and while doing so, slide the Y Motor and Y Idler into position so
that the belt is aligned perfectly straight and parallel to the smooth rod on the left-hand side
of the base frame as per the following images (you can temporarily rest the frame on two of
your stepper motors to achieve full travel on the Bed Trolley to assist in correct alignment):
