4.1.1 Fitting The Mounting Tray
If the mounting tray is to be fitted using existing holes (ex Wayfarer 2 or 3 ETM) it should be
secured using M5 fixings.
If new fixing holes are to be drilled to mount the tray, they should be drilled as follows:
WARNING
THE VEHICLE CHASSIS IS NOT A RELIABLE MEDIUM TO USE FOR
GROUNDING THE TICKET MACHINE, THEREFORE WAYFARER ADVISE
THAT THE ETM AND MOUNTING TRAY SHOULD BE ‘FLOATING’ I.E. –
ELECTRICALLY ISOLATED FROM THE VEHICLE CHASSIS.
THE WAYFARER MOUNTING TRAY AND THE ASSOCIATED MOUNTING
SCREWS, ETC., MUST BE INSULATED FROM THE VEHICLE
METALWORK AND THERE SHOULD BE NO EARTHED METALWORK IN
CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE TRAY OR ELECTRONIC TICKET MACHINE.
•
Wooden Mounting Medium
Negative and Positive Earthed Vehicles
Under this condition, wood (insulation board, plywood, chip board, etc.)
should be used as the insulating material between the tray and the vehicle
metal work - see WARNING above.
The insulating material should be first appropriately drilled and secured to the
metal mounting area using suitable length M5 countersunk screws, nuts and
washers and using current workshop practices. Ensure that the holes are drilled
on a centre that will clear the mounting bracket screws i.e. – not on 65mm or
150 mm pitch.
Four 2.25mm pilot holes should then be drilled in the insulating material on
150mm or 65mm centres around the centre point of the mounting area - see
Paragraph 4.1 for the permissible mounting area. A pitch of 150mm is the
preferred pitch resulting in a much securer fixing. The tray should be secured to
the insulating material using four No.10 countersunk wood screws whose length
depends on the thickness of the insulating material.
WARNING
THE LENGTH OF THE MOUNTING SCREWS MUST BE SUCH
THAT THEY DO NOT PROTRUDE FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF
THE INSULATING MATERIAL.
