2.5 Column compartment configuration and control
Before you can operate a column heater with active pre-heating, you must configure it in the
console to ensure that the column heater is ready to operate according to your application. You
control the column heater via the console or instrument method in the chromatography data
software.
2.5.1 Specifying the preheater setting
Before operating the system, you must specify the column preheater setting in the console
whenever any of these events occurs:
• The APH device is newly installed in the column heater.
• The APH device was uninstalled.
Additionally, before running samples, you can change the preheater setting to enable, or disable,
active pre-heating, as necessary, to suit different applications.
Important:
If you enable active pre-heating in the console, and then remove the APH assembly
from the compartment, a system alarm occurs, and the error message
Column active
preheater configured but not detected
appears. To avoid this condition, before
removing the APH assembly, change the console's column preheater setting to
Active, disabled
.
To specify the preheater setting:
1.
From the console's
Sample Manager
instrument configuration page, select
Configure
>
Preheater
.
2.
In the Preheater Configuration window, specify the Preheater setting as follows:
• Select
Active
, to enable active pre-heating. During operation, the APH heats the
incoming solvent to the temperature specified for the column heater in the console or
instrument method.
• Select
Active, disabled
, to disable active pre-heating. During operation, if the APH is
installed (present), active pre-heating is disabled. If the APH is uninstalled (not
present), this setting prevents the associated system alarm from occurring.
2.5.2 Enabling the leak sensor
The column compartment uses the sample manager's upper leak sensor connection. Accordingly,
to enable the column compartment's leak sensor, you must enable the leak sensor associated
with the sample manager's upper location in the console.
