j) Temperature measurement with contact sensor
When taking a temperature measurement, only allow the temperature probe to come into contact
with the surface of the measured object. The multimeter must not be exposed to temperatures
below or in excess of the operating temperature, as this may lead to incorrect measurements.
The temperature probe must only be used on voltage-free surfaces.
The multimeter features a wire sensor that can measure temperatures from -40 to + 230 °C. To use the full tempera-
ture measurement range (-40 bis +1000 °C), purchase a K-type thermal sensor. The enclosed adapter plug is required
to connect K-type sensors with a miniature connector.
All K-type thermal sensors can be used for taking temperature measurements. The temperatures can be displayed
in °C, °F or Kelvin (K).
Proceed as follows to measure the temperature:
- Switch the DMM on and select the ‘K Temp’ measuring function. The
preset temperature unit appears on the display.
- Insert the temperature probe with correct polarity into the enclosed
temperature measuring adapter. The thermocouple connector only
fits into the measurement adapter when the polarity is correct. Do
not use force when inserting.
- Insert the measurement adapter with the correct polarity (with the
positive terminal in the K-Temp measurement socket (10) and the
negative terminal into the COM measurement socket (9)).
- The temperature value is displayed.
- ‘OL’ on the display indicates that the measurement range was ex-
ceeded or the sensor was disconnected.
- After taking a measurement, remove the sensor and switch the
DMM on.
The temperature unit can be toggled in the settings menu.
If no temperature sensor is connected, the ambient temperature of the DMM can be displayed using a
jumper between the two measurement sockets (‘COM’ and ‘K-Temp’). As the sensor is located inside the
housing, you, the display reacts very slowly to temperature fluctuations. This function helps you check that
the DMM is at the correct operating temperature after storage. An external sensor must be used for quick
measurements.
