Proceed as follows to measure the AC current with a clamp-on ammeter.
- Switch the DMM on and select the ‘ ’ measuring function. In addition to the unit, the display also shows the
symbol for alternating current ‘ ’.
- The table shows the requisite input signals for the different measurement ranges. Select the suitable measurement
range according to the clamp-on ammeter adapter being used. The measurement ranges must be set manually by
pressing the ‘RANGE’ button.

- Insert the red test lead into the measurement socket . Insert the black test lead into the COM measurement
socket.
- Set the appropriate measurement range on the clamp-on ammeter adapter, if necessary. This must match the set-
tings on the measuring instrument.
-
Guide the clamp-on ammeter around a current-bearing conductor. The polarity is irrelevant when it comes to alter-
nating current.
Ensure that only one conductor is measured. If two
external conductors are measured, the currents
are added. If an external conductor and a neutral
conductor are measured, the currents cancel one
another out.
- The measured value is shown on the display.
- After taking a measurement, remove the clamp-on ammeter
from the measured object and switch the DMM off.
