5.1
Human
An operator prepares the equipment and starts it as described further in this chapter.
5.2
Operator
Every well-skilled technical person can act as an operator. For safely using the BX42S, the operator
must have the following specific professional knowledge:

General knowledge of industrial safety procedures.
◼
General knowledge of operating and functioning farm machinery.
◼
Basic knowledge and skills regarding woodchipping machinery.
5.3
Workplace
The workplace comprises both sides of the woodchipper, approximately 2 m. Persons should never
be at the rear of the machine. See the figure for the Operator zone in this Chapter.
Emergency stop procedure; Safety bracket
Know your controls and how to stop the tractor and woodchipper in an emergency quickly.

Read the manual provided with the tractor.
5.4
Pre-operation checklist
A pre-operation checklist is provided for the operator. It is essential for both personal safety and
maintaining an excellent mechanical condition that this checklist is followed.
Before operating the Woodchipper and each time after that, check off the following areas:
1.
Ensure the machine is lubricated per the schedule outline in the Maintenance section.
2.
Check the flywheel/rotor, knives, and twig-breakers. Remove any twine, wire, or other
material that has become entangled.
3.
Check the condition and clearance of the twig breaker, rotor, and stationary blades. Adjust or
replace as required.
4.
Check that all bearings turn freely. Replace any that are rough or seized.
