Remote Control

Rev. 002

1018360

4-1

4. Remote Control

The VBM-1400 may be operated remotely using the serial REMOTE
interface connector on the rear panel.  To operate in this manner,
perform the following procedures.

1.

Ensure the remote controller, “dumb terminal” or PC is connected
as described in paragraph 2.4.1.

2.

Turn VBM-1400 power on using the

I - O

 rocker switch on the rear

panel above the power cord connection.

3.

Observe all front panel LEDs go on, and then go off after about 2
seconds.  (LEDs remaining on indicate the function is active). Also,

observe the VBM-1400 INITALIZING screen for approximately 10
seconds, and then the VBM-1400 MODULATOR screen.

4.

Using the front panel controls (see FO-1), select the correct

parameters from the REMOTE I/O

MENU.

5.

Refer to the following paragraphs for a description of the remote
control commands and expected responses when using a “dumb

terminal” or other remote control device.

4.1 PROTOCOL

Each command MUST be prefixed with the following:

:ADR<

where

ADR

is the current assigned EIA-485 address for the unit under control.

Commands may be terminated with carriage return (CR), linefeed (LF),
or both.  Commands are case insensitive.  An example command is

shown below.

 :2<mod_frq

Responses will be prefixed w

ith:

:ADR>

 and w

ill be all capital letters as

shown below.

:2ADR>MOD_FRQ 110.1000

4.2 MODULATOR

COMMANDS

This section contains the supported Command and Response strings
for modulator control (MOD).

4.2.1 Frequency

(MHz)

CMD: “MOD_FRQ x”

x=?

Query current frequency.

x=FFFF.FFFF Set frequency (no leading zeros).

FFFF.FFFF = 50-90 MHz or 100-180 MHz or 950-1450 MHz

RSP: “MOD_FRQ FFFF.FFFF” or
RSP: “MOD_FRQ ERROR”
