2.4.1 VBM-1400 Connections and Descriptions
All VBM-1400 connections are on the rear panel as shown in
Figure 2-2. Refer to Table 2-2, and complete the following steps:
1.
Connect the power cord to the AC connector.
2.
Connect the other end of the power cord into the power source (100-
240 VAC, 50–60 Hz).
3.
Turn power on using the
I - O
rocker switch on the rear panel above
the power cord connection. Observe all front panel LEDs go on and
then go off after about 2 seconds. (LEDs remaining on indicate the
function is active). Also observe the VBM-1400 INITIALIZING screen
for approximately 10 seconds, and then the VBM-1400
MODULATOR screen appears.
4.
See FO-1 in Appendix E and use the cursor keys to navigate to the
INTERFACE MENU, then select the desired Interface Type.
5.
Turn power off before connecting additional cables.
6.
Connect the cable from the baseband data source to the DVB/M2P
IN connector (J1), and/or the 75-ohm coaxial cable from the
baseband data source to the ASI IN connector (J2).
7.
Connect the TX 50-ohm coaxial cable to the TX OUT connector (J8).
8.
(Option) Connect the 50-ohm coaxial cable from the external
reference source to the EXT REF IN connector (J6). Set the correct
frequency parameters using the front panel controls and LCD
display.
9.
(Option) To daisy-chain the reference frequency with additional
equipment, connect a 50-ohm coaxial cable from the REF OUT
connector to the next unit in the daisy chain. Set the correct
frequency parameters using the front panel controls and LCD
display. Either the internal 10 MHz signal or the signal present on
the EXT REF IN jack may be selected from the front panel.
10.
(Option) For remote control operation, connect a serial cable (EIA-
485 or EIA-232) to J5 from the PC. Set the correct communication
parameters using the front panel controls and LCD display. The
serial cable signals must match the remote port pin configuration,
see table 2-5.
11.
(Option) Connect a cable with a DB-9 female connector from the
external alarm-monitoring device to the ALARM connector (J4).
12.
(Option) Connect a 50-ohm coaxial cable from the spectrum
analyzer or other monitoring equipment to the TX MON connector
(J7).
13.
(Option) To reduce ground-loop interference, connect a ground wire
from the equipment rack to the ground stud.

Note Turn power on and
select the interface type
before connecting the
interface cable
.
Note: If a remote control
device is used, refer to
section 4 to select the
correct device
parameters.
Note If using J1 for ASI
input, also connect J2 for
clock signals.
