3. Initial Set Up and Configuration
3.1 Introduction
This section contains information for initial set up and configuration of
the VBM-1400. The VBM-1400 is configured locally using the front
panel controls and display. After initial set up and configuration, the
VBM-1400 may be operated remotely using the REMOTE connector on
the rear panel.
A summary of actions necessary to set up the VBM-1400 are listed in
Table 3-1. Refer to subsequent paragraphs for details.

3.2 Initial Setup and Checkout
3.2.1 Parameters Required Before Configuring the VBM-1400
Before beginning the configuration process, the installer must know the
parameter values for the site. Some parameters require calculations or
measurements to determine the correct values. Refer to Appendix A.
3.3 Turning On and Configuring the VBM-1400 Using the Front Panel
To configure the parameters stored in the VBM-1400 using the front
panel controls and display, perform the following procedures.
Turn power on using the
I - O
rocker switch on the rear panel above
the power cord connection. Observe all front panel LEDs go on and
then go off after about 2 seconds. (LEDs remaining on indicate the
function is active). Also, observe the VBM-1400 INITIALIZING screen for
approximately 10 seconds, and then the VBM-1400 MODULATOR
screen.
See FO-1 in Appendix E and use the cursor keys to navigate to each of
the desired parameter screens.

procedures in section
2 have been
completed before
attempting to operate
the equipment.
Note The VBM-1400 has
been tested and verified to
be operational over
ViaSat’s test network.
However, the operating
parameters must be
configured at each location.
