Appendix E: Configuring Wave ISM for the Windows Firewall

Wave Server Installation Guide

To resolve these problems, when Wave workstation applications are started, the Windows 
Firewall settings on workstation PCs are automatically modified so that the Wave workstation 
applications will work properly on most networks. Specifically, to enable necessary 
communication between a Wave workstation application and the Wave ISM, upon start up the 
Wave workstation application automatically adds several entries to the Windows Firewall 
Exceptions List on the workstation PC. (For a complete list of the Windows Firewall exceptions 
added to Wave workstation PCs and their associated default values, see “Windows Firewall 
exceptions added for Wave” on page E-4.)

Adjusting Windows Firewall exceptions

You 

must

 perform the following procedure on your Wave ISM if 

any

 workstation PC is running 

the Windows Firewall, so that the workstation PC can receive events from the Wave Server. 
This allows you to tailor the Windows Firewall settings to match your unique network 
configuration and security requirements.

1.

In the Global Administrator Management Console, click User/Workgroup Management, 
and then choose 

Tools > System Settings

. 

2.

Select the Security \ Workstation Firewall tab.
