BATH COMPOSITION ADJUSTMENTS
Note:
On a daily basis, check the liquid level in each of the baths and adjust for the proper
volume. On a monthly basis, check the liquid in each bath for proper composition and adjust
as needed.
Procedure 5-24: Bath Composition Adjustment
1. Determine the freezing point of the liquid in the bath utilizing the indicator.
2. Adjust the level to the
fill line
of the bath. Add water to raise the freezing point of the liquid, add glycol
to lower the freezing point or add both water and glycol (~ 50/50) to maintain the freezing point.
Note:
If the composition needs to be adjusted, and there is not enough room in the bath,
then remove some of the liquid and dispose of it as hazardous waste. The container must be
appropriately labeled.
3. Allow the bath to circulate for at least three minutes.
4. Verify the proper bath composition by checking the freezing point with the hydrometer.
5. Allow the bath to equilibrate prior to use.
