Installing the Graphical User Interface (GUI) Software

If you prefer to program and operate the TCD-3 via console port commands 
instead of the GUI, 

refer to “Appendix B:  Basic TCD Operation via Serial Commands 

on page 32.”

A PC/laptop operating under Windows 7/8/10 is required to use the TCD-3 
Graphical User Interface (GUI) program.  The computer will also need a serial 
communication (COM) port for communication with the TCD-3 controller.

Locate the TCD-3 software installer program on the USB key included with the 
TCD-3 system, and run the setup.exe file. (The software may also be downloaded 
from the support area of VICI.com).  The self-extracting installer will automatically 
install two programs in addition to the TCD GUI—LabView 2013 Runtime Engine 
and LabView VISA Runtime Engine—applications from National Instruments 
which are required to run the GUI.

Establishing Communication

1.  With carrier gas still flowing, turn on the TCD controller with the on/off switch 

on the rear panel.

2.  Find TCD-3 Control GUI on the Windows Start menu and click to open it.  After 

the splash screen, the Control screen (

) will appear.

3.  Click on the gear icon at the top right of the Control screen to navigate to the 

Configuration screen. (

In the Communications box (lower left section of the Configuration screen),  
note the indicator at the top right of the box.  A bright green light indicates  
that communication has been established between the unit and the computer.
