4.7.3 Lines for primary circuit
The lines for the primary circuit of the Vaillant heat
pump geoTHERM to the domestic hot water cylinder un-
iSTOR should be made of copper and should have a min-
imum diameter of 22 mm.
Lines with bigger diameters must possibly be used if the
distance between the heat pump and the cylinder is too
big. It is not necessary to design a circulation pump for
these lines because the Vaillant is equipped with heat
pump via an integrated circulation pump.
4.7.4 Laying of the discharge pipes
The discharge connections of the temperature/pressure
compensation valve as well as of the safety valve must
be connected via 15 mm copper pipes with the supplied
drain hopper. The tundish should be installed vertically
as close to the appliance as possible and within 500 mm
of the temperature and pressure relief outlet. It must be
positioned away from any electricl components an din-
stalled in the same space as the geoTHERM eclusive, so
that it is vislible to the user. The discharge pipe from
the temperature-/pressure compensation valve and
from the safety valve can be joined via a T piece above
the tundish.
The drain pipe from the 22-mm connection of the
tundish must be laid to a safe and visible outlet with
copper pipe with at least 22 mm diameter.
A vertical line section which is at least 300 mm long
must be below the tundish, before the line reaches a
curve. If the total drag of the drain pipe exceeds the val-
ues specified in table 4.2 below, the line diameter must
be increased. During the installation of the drain pipe,
the G3 specification must be observed.
The cylinder relief valve connections should not to be
used for any other purpose.

22-mm drainpipe with 4 elbows and 7 m length of
tundish up to the drain:
Resistance for 4 elbows

Resistance for discharge pipe
=
7.0 m
Total resistance
=
10.2 m
The total resistance of the drain pipe is more than
the permissible maximum value (9 m) for 22-mm
pipe. Base your calculations therefore on the next
largest pipe diameter.
28-mm drainpipe with 4 elbows and 7 m length of the
tundish up to the drain:
Resistance for 4 elbows
1.0 m each
=
4.0 m
Resistance for discharge pipe
=
7.0 m
Total resistance
=
11.0 m
The total drag of the drain pipe is lower than that for
the 28 mm lines permissible maximum value (18 m);
thus, this line diameter is suitable.
