Engine oil can be used to lubricate
and cool the engine inside, and it
plays significant role in engine
maintenance.
Consumption of engine oil
Engine will consume oil while
running, and the reasons for engine
oil consumption are shown as
follows:
●Engine oil is mainly used for
lubricating piston, piston ring, and
gas cylinder. In the event that the
piston is moving downwards, a thin
layer of oil film will be formed on
the wall of gas cylinder, and high
negative
pressure
will
suck
above-mentioned engine oil into
combustion
chamber
while
decelerating. Later, such engine oil
and some engine oil film on the wall
of gas cylinder will be burnt by
high-temperature inflammable gas
in combustion stroke.
●In addition, engine oil can be used
for lubricating intake valve spindle.
Some engine oil and air will be
sucked into combustion chamber,
and they will be burnt together with
fuel. Also, the engine oil for
lubricating intake valve spindle will
be burnt by hot gas.
Engine oil consumption depends on
engine oil’s stickiness & quality and
automobile’s running condition.
More engine oil will be consumed
in the event of high-speed running
and
frequent
acceleration
&
deceleration.
New engine will consume more oil
due to poor run-in among piston,
piston ring, and gas cylinder.

engine
oil
consumption, it is noteworthy that
engine oil can be diluted, which
poses difficulty to calculate the
actual oil consumption.
For instance, in the event that
automobile is repetitively running
in a short distance but engine oil
consumption is normal, engine oil
level does not decline according to
dipstick, and engine oil level
maintains unchanged after running
above 1000km, which should be
attributed to engine oil’s dilution by
fuel or water.
While automobile is running at high
speed (such as in expressway), the
diluted elements will be vaporized,
thus
engine
oil’s
excessive
consumption will be displayed on
the dipstick.
