5. Grease zerk or Nipples lubrication.
Once the planter is clean, it is advisable to grease the grease zerks or alemite nipples
to eliminate any moisture or water remnant inside mobile elements.
If possible, store the planter where it is protected from rain and sunshine till the next planting
season. In case the planter is stored in the open air, it is advisable to remove the wheels or
to cover them so that sunlight does not directly affect the tires.
Beginning of the working season
The planter requires some preparation to prevent time consuming failures. Main preparation
includes:
1.
Gearboxes oil replacement.
Recommended oil is SAE 30 viscosity, (as shown in chart 1).
The planting unit’s gearbox features plug B, Figure 27 for draining the bottom and
plug A on the top for filling. Recommended oil quantity is 4 liters.
The two fertilizing gearboxes, shown in figure 28, can be emptied suctioning the oil with an
adequate element, and fill through the A cap until it reaches the B level.
2. Checking all hubs that use bearings with tapered roller bearings.
Lift wheels (Figure 16).
Contact Drive wheels (Figure 17).
Disc openers (Figure 18).
Markers discs (Figure 19).
Fertilizer disc (Figure 20).
If wear is detected, it is required to tighten the bearings or to replace them if damaged. Then,
grease all bearings.
3. Tires
Check tire pressure of all the planter´s wheels. See chart 2.
Avoid direct skin contact with mineral oils and greases. Take extreme precautions
and use gloves when handling mineral oils and greases.
