13 HYDRAULIC INSTALLATION
13.1
General
The water pipework must be installed in accordance with the national and local regulations.
The pipework material can be made from copper, steel, galvanised steel or PVC. The recommended requirements for
the pipework design between the heat pump and the buffer vessel are as follows:
1. Pipework velocities to be 3 m/sec maximum for 50mm+ diameter pipework.
2. Pipework pressure drop to be 300 pa/m maximum.
3. End of system component pressure drop of 20kPa maximum (buffer vessel).
It is recommended that the interconnecting pipework between the heat pump and the buffer vessel should include the
following:
•
Isolation valves: To allow the heat pump to be isolated from the system.
•
Pockets for temperature probes: To measure the system flow and return temperatures.
•
Temperature and pressure gauges: For servicing and maintenance purposes.
•
Pressurisation unit and expansion vessel: To maintain system pressure and expansion.
•
System AAV’s at the highest point: To remove any trapped air within the pipework.
•
Strainers / filters: To be installed on the return pipework, secondary (system) side of the buffer vessel.
•
Pipework Insulation: All interconnecting pipework must be insulated with appropriate and correct thickness
insulation.
13.2

If the DHW flow connection is not used (connection 3), ensure this is capped off on site before pressurising
the heat pump.
Make sure there are no leaks before insulating all interconnecting pipework and filling the system.
In order to avoid condensate generation, insulate all interconnecting pipework using steam barrier type
material
