10.1.2     Lavage Function 

1. 

Engage Standby Mode by pressing the standby button on the touchscreen display 
or gi4000 footswitch. 

2. 

Open  the  bottle  of  sterile  water  and  remove  the  cap.    The  water  bottle  holder 
provided  with  the  gi4000  ESU  is  compatible  with  most  disposable  sterile  water 
bottles. 

3. 

Before installing irrigation tubing: 

•

  Visually inspect the irrigation tubing for damage (holes, tears, contamination, 

etc.). 

•

  Verify  the  pump  head  is  adjusted  to  the  appropriate  irrigation  tubing  setting.

Pump

 for instructions on adjusting the pump head tubing adjusters. 

4. 

Connect irrigation tubing to sterile water bottle per manufacturer’s instructions.  

5. 

Open the pump head lid of the lavage pump. 

6. 

Locate the positional markers on the irrigation tubing and insert into the pump head 
between the positional markers. 

7. 

While placing the irrigation tubing into the pump head, grasp the tubing together and 
gently pull upward, as shown in 

Figure 10-1.

 This will ensure that the irrigation tubing 

is  centered  and  aligned  properly  in  the  Pump  Head  to  avoid  kinking,  tearing,  or 
disruption of water flow.  
 

       

8. 

Ensure  the  irrigation  tubing  is  installed  into  the  pump  head

 

in  the  direction  of  the 

arrow.  Water flow is right to left when facing the pump. 

9. 

Close the pump head lid.  Verify the irrigation tubing is not pinched in the pump head 
lid. 

10.  Prior to insertion of the endoscope into the patient, prime the irrigation tubing and 

the water irrigation channel/accessory channel of the endoscope by depressing the 
irrigation pedal on the footswitch. 

 

 

NOTE: 

   

During use of the gi4000 ESU, the user should be within three to five 

feet of the unit to interact with the touchscreen display and unit features.
