RxControl: Navigation > Receiver Operation > Position > Earth Models

Use these commands to deﬁne the magnetic variation (a.k.a. magnetic declination) at the
current position. The magnetic variation speciﬁes the local offset of the direction to the mag-
netic north with respect to the geographic north. The variation is positive when the magnetic
north is east of the geographic north.

By default (the argument

Mode

is set to

auto

), the receiver automatically computes the varia-

tion according to the 12th generation of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF)
model, using the IGRF2015 coeﬃcients corrected for the secular variation.

Note that the magnetic variation is used solely in the generation of NMEA messages.
