Selecting HotSync Setup Options

3. Click the 

General

 tab, and select one of the following 

options:
• 

Always available

: Adds HotSync Manager to the 

Startup folder and constantly monitors the 
communication port for synchronisation requests from 
your PDA phone. With this option the HotSync 
Manager synchronises data even when Palm

TM

 Desktop 

software is not running.

• 

Available only when the Palm Desktop software is 

running

: Starts HotSync Manager and monitors 

requests automatically when you open Palm

TM

 Desktop 

software.

• 

Manual

: Monitor requests only when you select 

HotSync Manager from the 

Start

 menu.

If you’re not sure of which option to use, keep the 
default setting, 

Always available

.

4. Click the 

Local

 tab to display the settings for the local 

connection between your computer and the PDA phone, 
such as a serial or IrDA connection. See page 225.

If you are using the USB cable, you do not need to set 
the options on this tab for a direct HotSync operation.

5. Click the 

Modem

 tab to display the modem settings and 

adjust the options as needed. For more information, see 
“Conducting Modem HotSync Operations” on page 231.

6. If you are attached to a network, click the 

Network

 tab 

to display the network settings and adjust the options as 
needed. For more information, see “Conducting Network 
HotSync Operations” on page 237.

7. Click 

OK
