4.5.2 Operation of Transfer Relays (RY-1 to RY-4) and Neutral to Ground Bond Switching Relay (RY-5)
Refer to the connection diagram at Fig 4.1. Operation is explained in the succeeding Sections 4.5.2(A) to 4.5.2(E)
4.5.2(A) 240VAC Split Phase input from Grid / Utility is available (within the programmed limits of
voltage and frequency)
• Unit will be in “Charging Mode”
• Relays RY-3 and RY-4 will be in ON condition - contacts 3 and 4 will close
(These relays will be ON when the
Micro-controller is working normally and the battery is connected)
• Relays RY-1 and RY-2 will be in ON condition - contact 3 and 4 will close
(These relays will be ON in “Charging
Mode”)
• 240VAC Split Phase input voltage from Input Terminals marked “Input L1” and “Input L2”
(2,3 in Fig 4.1)
will
be fed to the Bi-directional Transformer for charging
• 240VAC Split Phase input voltage will also be by-passed to Split Phase Output Terminals marked “Output L1”
and “Output L2”
(7,6 in Fig 4.1)
4.5.2(B) 120VAC Single Phase input from Grid / Utility is available (within the programmed limits of
voltage and frequency)
• Unit will be in “Charging Mode”
• Relays RY-3 and RY-4 will be in ON condition - contacts 3 and 4 will close
(These relays will be ON when the
Micro-controller is working normally and the battery is connected)
• Relays RY-1 and RY-2 will be in ON condition - contact 3 and 4 will close
(These relays will be ON in “Charging
Mode”)
• 120VAC Single Phase input voltage from (i) Input Terminals marked “Input L1”
(2 in Fig 4.1)
and “Input N”
(4 in Fig 4.1)
or, (ii) 120VAC Single Phase input voltage from Input Terminals marked “Input L2”
(3 in Fig 4.1)
and “Input N”
(4 in Fig 4.1)
will be fed to the Bi-directional Transformer for charging
• 120VAC Single Phase input voltage will be stepped up to 240VAC Split Phase voltage by auto-transformer
action of the Bi-directional Input / Output Transformer and will be passed through as stepped up 240VAC Split
Phase to Output Terminals marked “Output L1” and “Output L2”
(7,6 in Fig 4.1)
4.5.2(C) 240VAC Split Phase or 120VAC Single Phase input from Grid / Utility Fails
• When AC input fails, the unit will change over to “Inverting Mode”
• Relays RY-3 and RY-4 will still be in ON condition - contacts 3 and 4 will remain closed
(These relays will be ON
when the Micro-controller is working normally and the battery is connected)
• Relays RY-1 and RY-2 will switch OFF - contact 3 and 4 will open
(These relays will be ON only in “Charging
Mode”)
• Internal Inverter Section will be activated. 240VAC Split Phase output voltage from the Bi-directional Input /
Output Transformer will be fed to the Split Phase Output Terminals marked “Output L1” and “Output L2”
(7,6 in Fig 4.1)
