4.5.2(D) Automatic Switching On /Off of Bonding Between the Output Neutral and Metal Chassis
Ground of the Unit
In EVO-4248SP Inverter Charger, both the Input / Output Neutral Terminals
(4,5 in Fig 4.1)
are connected to the
same common Neutral of the Bi-directional Input / Output Transformer
(Fig 4.1)
. This unit can be operated as
follows:
• As a stand-alone inverter
(with no connection to the Grid / Utility)
: The Input /Output Neutral Terminals
(4,5 Fig 4.1)
will get connected to the metal Chassis Ground of the unit through the normally closed (
NC
)
contacts 3,5 of the “Output Neutral to Chassis Ground Bond Switching Relay”
(RY-5 in Fig 4.1)
and the mated
Male / Female Quick Disconnect
(9, Fig 4.1)
located in the AC Wiring Compartment
(1, Fig 2.3)
• As an Off-Grid Inverter Charger
(with input connected to the Grid / Utility)
: When AC input from the
Grid / Utility is available, the unit operates in “Charging Mode” - the batteries are charged and the AC input
is passed through to the AC loads. The “Output Neutral to Chassis Ground Bond Switching Relay”
(RY-5 in Fig
4.1)
will be ON, its (
NC
) contacts 3,5 will open and will disconnect the bond between the AC output Neutral
(5, Fig 4.1)
and the metal Chassis Ground of the unit. The Input / Output Neutrals
(4,5 in Fig 4.1)
of the unit
will now be connected to the Earth Ground through the Grounded Neutral of the Grid / Utility Electrical Panel
4.5.2(E) Disabling Internal Neutral to Chassis Ground Bond:
In some applications, the AC Output Neutral
(5, Fig 4.1)
may be required to remain isolated from the metal Chassis Ground of the unit at all times. For this,
the automatic Neutral to Ground bonding (
in Inverting Mode
) can be disabled by disconnecting the Male / Female
Quick Disconnect
(9, Fig 4.1)
located in the AC Wiring Compartment
