12.2 Sample Tracking
Sample tracking is facilitated at several levels including barcoding, sample ID
importing, and log files.
12.2.1 Gel cassette barcodes
Each gel cassette has a unique serial number that is placed on a bar coded label. To
bar code labels are adhered to every cassette. Lot number and date of manufacture
are embedded in the serial number:

Bottom of the cassette
– This barcode is read by the PippinHT instrument
nests. The barcode is read when a continuity test is completed, and when a
run is started. The barcode text is displayed in the nest tabs on the Main
screen and recorded to the log file.

Side of the cassette
– A second bar code label is placed on the side of each
gel cassette for user to optionally scan for internal tracking or LIMS.
