The following sections cover mostly hardware and service-related topics.

8.1 Interfaces and Connectors

This chapter provides a detailed description of the rear panel connectors of the R&S
CMW500. For a graphical overview of the rear panel refer to 

Rear Panel Tour

8.1.1 Rear Panel Connectors

The rear panel of the R&S CMW500 provides various connectors for external devices
and control signals.

8.1.1.1

LAN REMOTE

8-pin connector RJ-45 used to connect the R&S CMW500 to a Local Area Network (LAN).
Refer to 

Remote Operation in a LAN

 and 

LAN Interface

. It supports up to 1 Gbit/s. The

pin assignment of the RJ-45 connector supports category 5 UTP/STP (Unshielded/Shiel-
ded Twisted Pair) cables.

8.1.1.2

LAN SWITCH (Options R&S CMW-B660A and R&S CMW-B661A)

The LAN switch provides six internal and two external ports. The external ports are
accessed via two 8-pin RJ-45 connectors located to the right of the 

LAN REMOTE

 con-

nector. The left connector is used to connect the LAN switch to the LAN REMOTE con-
nector. For this purpose a patch cable is included in the delivery. Data provided by internal
boards is routed via this cable to the processor (e.g. payload provided by signaling units).
The right LAN switch connector serves as "new" LAN REMOTE connector and can be
used to connect the R&S CMW500 to a Local Area Network (LAN).

If you are using the Data Application Unit for running IP data tests, only use the LAN DAU
connector for LAN connections.

8.1.1.3

LAN DAU (DAU, Option R&S CMW-B450A)

8-pin connector RJ-45 used to connect the R&S CMW500 to a LAN for End-to-End IP
data testing and U-Plane testing. Refer to chapter "Data Application Unit". It supports up
to 1 Gbit/s. The pin assignment of the RJ-45 connector supports category 5 UTP/STP
(Unshielded/Shielded Twisted Pair) cables.
