INSTALLATION OF HEAT PUMP
The following instructions must be read prior to the installation of the heat pump and
distribution manifold. The installer should be aware of the duty of care to ensure all aspects
of the installation comply with all current regulations and legislation. Please ensure that all
correct permissions have been obtained from the local planning office, prior to siting the
appliance. All electrical work should only be undertaken by a competent electrician and it is
their responsibility to ensure that any work is carried out is down in accordance with the latest
regulations.
7.1
Installation location of heat pump
A suitable site must be determined before the commencement of any installation of the heat
pump. Before choosing the site please consider the below guidance. Please consider all local
planning requirements and that the correct permission, where applicable, has been granted
before commencing installation. Please pay attention to the below requirements.
a.
The heat pump location should be in free space outside the property.
b.
If possible face the heat pump south or south east, as this will be where it will achieve
most advantage from solar gain.
c.
Ensure that the minimum clearances around the heat pump are as described Figure
12.
d.
Ensure that there is good access for moving the product into position and the
plumbing and eclectics can be routed to the installation site below or above ground
as required. All the door and evaporator panels must be accessible so as can be
removed for install and servicing. Be mindful of the plumbing and electrical wiring
access.
e.
No obstacles should be directly above the heat pump and obstructing the fan air flow
for at least 2 meters.
f.
Ensure a suitable below ground condensate sock away is installed or accessible from
the heat pump site.
g.
The heat pump should not be located beside or near too overhead trees or deciduous
trees as these may cause blockage and build-up on the evaporator.
h.
The heat pump should not be installed beside or under bedroom or living room
windows as noise given off by compressor and fan can cause some disturbance.
i.
For this same reason do not install near neighbouring dwelling houses.
j.
The heat pump should be installed in a site where it is moderately sheltered from
prevailing wind as this ensure the defrost procedure can have maximum effect.
k.
The heat pump should be installed on a flat concrete slab or flags of no less than
900mm diameter and fastened to the base at the four corner brackets. The heat pump
should have at least 50mm between the base and edge of the slab. For underground
pipe installations, a template for casting the concrete base is provided in the appendix
to leave a route through the base for the pipes.
l.
The heat pump should be kept away for heating or cooling sources including low level
flues, extraction fans or air-conditioning units.
m.
The heat pump must have at least 400mm from each louver panel to ensure that the
air flow is not restricted and that there is enough space for maintenance.
