10.2 Heat pump tank hydraulic and wiring connections
10.2.1 Hydraulic connections
The incoming mains water supply must be capable of delivering a minimum flow of 20 litres
per minute at a dynamic pressure of 1.5bar at all times. This should be sufficient for the
operation of most sanitary appliances.
a. A minimum of 22mm copper mains supply pipe work should be installed, it may be
necessary to use larger diameter pipe for long pipe runs.
b. If the mains pressure is likely to exceed 3 bar at any time a pressure reducing valve
must be installed.
c. A full-bore isolation valve must be fitted to the incoming mains water supply to allow
the tank cold water outlets to be isolated if required.
d. The incoming mains water pipework should be split to serve both the hot water
storage tank and cold-water outlet taps after the full-bore isolation valve.
e. To protect the public water network from backflow contamination a double check
valve must be installed.
f. Care should be taken to ensure the direction arrow on the side of the double check
valve follows the direction of flow.
g. To accommodate expansion of the water in the mains supply pipework it is
recommended that a mini expansion vessel (1-2 litres) or shock arrestor should to be
fitted.
