7.4 Installing indoor controller and distribution manifold
7.4.1 Mounting the indoor controller and distribution manifold
The location of the indoor controller and distribution manifold must be carefully planned from
the outset of the installation. They interact with all components of the heating system and
so it is helpfully if they can be located as centrally as possible within the property and as near
to the heat pump install as possible to reduce cable and pipe runs. Please pay attention to
the below requirements.
a. The indoor controller should be mounted within the fabric of the main building away
from possible sources of water ingress and flammable materials. It should not be
mounted where there is high temperature or humidity potential.
b. Indoor controller should be located where the user has good access and at the correct
height for the end user and where the end user is content to interface with the
controller at the chosen location.
c. The distribution manifold should be mounted inside, where it is protected from the
frost and weather elements.
d. Consideration for wiring and plumbing of both the indoor controller and distribution
manifolds is essential and the mechanical installation drawings in section 6 should be
studied before the location is determined.
e. The distribution manifold should be mounted securely with the four mounting holes
provided and all pipe work should be clipped as required so that no strain is
transferred to the manifold.
f. The distribution manifold can generate some low noise so should be mounted away
from main living areas and if possible in an enclosed pipe room.
g. Only orientate the distribution manifold as shown in Figure 19.
