HEAT PUMP AND HOT WATER TANK INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
Before commencing the install please ensure the following requirements are met by the
existing heating and hot water services. If these are not met please ensure that the system is
upgraded to meet the requirements before or during the install. RED cannot guarantee the
performance of the heat pump if the installation does not comply to the minimum
requirements listed below. Please be aware that in the case of a new build or renovation, the
heating load will initially be much higher than specified as to dry out the building fabric.
2.1
Heat pump and distribution manifold system requirements
Please pay attention to the below requirements.
a.
The heat pump must be installed with the distribution manifold as described in
Chapter 6.
b.
The heat circuitry should be designed so that no trapped air pockets can form, and air
can vent from the highest point in the system.
c.
A drain valve should be fitted at the lowest point of the heating system.
d.
Each zone should have its own room thermostat which can be wired back to the heat
pump indoor controller. No other heating controls should be fitted including
thermotic radiator valves.
e.
Zones should be feed from the distribution manifold with 25mm ID pipe (i.e. 28mm
OD copper)
f.
The system should be flushed and clean before the install of the heat pump.
g.
The primary return to the heat pump must have a filter strainer of not less than kV10.
h.
The system should be designed to be pressurised to 3 bar and have correctly sized
sealed system kit installed with PRV set to release safely at 3 bar.
i.
The zones and DHW plumbing should come back to a designated plant room/space
where the zone distribution manifold can be mounted. Zone manifold dimensions as
are found in Table 2.
j.
The heat pump must be located outside and as described in Section 7.1.
k.
The heat pump should be installed so that it can be both isolated hydraulically and
electrically.
l.
The heat pump should be piped to the zone distribution manifold with DIN 32 or DIN
40 (depending on length of pipe run) pre-insulted pipe underground heating pipe or
insulated above ground pipe with no less than 0.4 W/mK heat loss.
m.
Provision of a ducting from the mains supply and serial data cable from the indoor
controller to the heat pump must also be pre-installed.
2.2
Tank system requirements
Please pay attention to the below requirements.
a.
Incoming mains water supply should always be capable of delivering a minimum flow
rate of 20 litres per minute at a dynamic pressure of 1.5 bar. If this cannot be achieved
a cold-water booster set should be installed to achieve this. It is also possible to use
a gravity fed system although flow rate performance will be significantly reduced.
b.
Incoming mains water supply pressure should not exceed 3 bar. If the supply pressure
is greater than this a pressure reducer must be installed.
