First 8 Hours of Operation Check b elts and adj u st as req u ired ( See Page 107, Section 16.1.2 ). Tho u gh
b elts w ere properly adj u sted at the factory, they w ill stretch after the first fe w
ho u rs of operation.
First 100 Hours of
Operation
Re-check b elt tension and adj u st if necessary.
Annual Fall Start-Up Follo w the entire start- u p proced u re at this time and check control settings
and operation.
Cabinet Exterior After installation, to u ch u p scratches. Periodic painting sho u ld b e done there-
after as req u ired.
Unit Location Verify that no flamma b le o b jects, liq u ids or v apors are present near the air
t u rno v er u nit. Minim u m clearances to com bu sti b les aro u nd the v ent pipe are
significantly higher than for the air t u rno v er u nit. See Page 8, Section 3.1 .
Do not hang anything from or place anything on the air t u rno v er u nit.
Keep the area u nder and aro u nd the air t u rno v er u nit free of all o b jects.
Heat Exchan g er
Inspection/Relief Cap
This cap m u st remain closed at all times. It is opened w hen the heat
exchanger experiences extreme internal press u re. E v ery six months check for
tightness of retaining collar, freeness of hinge mo v ement and hinge spring
strength/condition. Replace if cap is not sec u rely held closed.
Vent Pipe and Terminals Look for dirt, o b str u ctions, cracks on the pipe, gaps in the sealed areas and
corrosion. Clean or replace as req u ired. Do not u se the air t u rno v er u nit if
there is dirt, sagging, cracking or distortion. Remo v e any car b on deposits or
scale u sing a w ire b r u sh. If applica b le, check ins u lation of v ent pipe. Repair
as req u ired. Ins u lation m u st ha v e a minim u m temperat u re rating of 1000° F
(537.8° C).
Propeller Inspect propeller and clean as necessary. A small bu ild u p of d u st can ca u se
a significant decrease in fan performance. Check for excessi v e v i b ration,
repair as req u ired.
Drive Belts and Sheaves Check for b elt ride in the groo v e. In m u ltiple groo v e dri v es, b elt ride sho u ld b e
u niform. Check groo v e w ear area for w ear. Side w all of groo v e sho u ld b e
straight, not dished o u t. Bottom of groo v e sho u ld sho w no signs of b elt con-
tact.
Shea v e alignment, set scre w torq u e and b elt tension sho u ld b e checked after
8, 24, and 100 ho u rs of initial start- u p. Vis u ally inspect b elts and shea v es for
excessi v e w ear. If b elts ha v e a slick, glazed look, the b elts are slipping. Check
dri v e capacity and b elt tension. Ne v er replace only one b elt in a u sed set, as
u sed b elts w ill elongate. Replace the entire set if replacement is necessary.
Fan Bearin g Lubrication The fan b earings sho u ld b e re-l ub ricated e v ery 3,000 ho u rs of operation or 6
months, w hiche v er occ u rs first. The recommended l ub ricant is Shell Al v ania
#2 or S3 grease. To re-l ub ricate the b lo w er pillo w b lock/flange b earings, b e
s u re that the grease fittings on the b earing ho u sing (or air t u rno v er u nit ca b i-
net w all in the case of extended grease lines) are clean. Apply the recom-
mended amo u nt of grease (per the b earing man u fact u rer) to the fitting w ith a
lo w -press u re grease g u n and add slo w ly w hile the shaft is sp u n b y hand. Do
not o v er-grease. O v er-greasing w ill red u ce the ser v ice life of the b earings.
