1.
Remove the cable/motor assembly (item
30B) per steps 1 and 2 of "Cable As-
sembly Replacement" in the "Mainte-
nance" section.
2.
Remove the resistor (item 10) and
spring (item 11) from drive shaft (item 9)
and set aside for safe keeping.
3.
Insert a long shaft standard screwdriver
into the lower opening at the rear of the
barrel assembly (item 14) and remove
screw (item 34) and washer (item 35).
4.
Cover the front of the barrel (item 14)
with a rag. With an air gun (set at a
maximum of 50 psi) at the rear of the
handgun, blow the resistor seal (item
39), o-ring (item 40), and resistor (item
38) out the front of the barrel.
damage is found the resistor housing
(item 14A) needs to be replaced. Refer
to "Resistor Housing Replacement" in
the "Maintenance" section.
Resistor is made of ceramic material.
Resistor may break if dropped, mishandled,
or exposed to solvent(s).

If resistor is not pushed out by the air,
insert a rigid wire into the rear of the resis-
tor housing and push the resistor out. Be
careful not to scratch or scar the inside of
resistor housing.

5.
Clean the resistor housing (item 14A)
with a nonconductive solvent and dry
thoroughly. (Refer to "Effects of Sol-
vents" in the "Maintenance" section.) In-
spect the ID of each end of the resistor
housing (item 14A) for any signs of high
voltage tracking or arcing. If any such
6.
Fill the inside diameter of a new resistor
(item 38) with dielectric grease (item 83).
Hold the nozzle of the grease tube to the
hole on one end of the resistor (item 38)
and slowly squeeze the grease into the
resistor until it protrudes from the oppo-
site end of resistor. Coat the outside
surface of the resistor (item 38) with the
dielectric grease (item 83).
7.
Insert the resistor (item 38) into the front
of the resistor housing (item 14A) with
the inked end (black) of the resistor to-
ward the front of the barrel (item 14).
8.
At the front end of the barrel (item 14)
use a screwdriver to hold the resistor
(item 38). At the back of the barrel insert
the washer (item 35) and screw (item
34) into the resistor housing (item 14A).
With a long screwdriver screw the
screw (item 34) into the resistor (item
38).
After two to four resistors failing, the
resistor housing may be permanently con-
taminated and require replacement.

9.
Place a new o-ring (item 40) onto resis-
tor seal (item 39). Apply a thin coating of
petroleum jelly to the o-ring (item 40) and
insert the resistor seal (side with hole
first) into the front end of resistor hous-
ing (item 14A). Push the resistor seal
(item 39) into resistor housing (item 14A)
until it contacts the resistor (item 38). In-
sert the contact brush (item 41).
