Determining the
actual
displacement

Step Description
(II):
s
O
2
> 0.97 (or erroneous) and
p
50(st) is keyed in.
Coordinates (
P
0
,
S
0
) are calculated from (
p
50(st), 0.5) using
equations 46.9 and 46.11.
Reference position of the ODC.
The ODC is shifted from the reference position to pass
through the point (
P
0
,
S
0
). In this position, the ODC reflects
the
p
50(st) of the patient, i.e., the particular patient but at
standard conditions.
The ODC is further shifted, as determined by the effect of
the measured parameters (“ac”), to its actual position. This
position reflects the
p
50(act) of the patient.
(III):
s
O
2
> 0.97 (or erroneous) and no
p
50(st) has been keyed in.
Reference position of the ODC.
The position of the actual ODC can now be approximated
from the reference position, using the actual values of pH,
p
CO
2
,
F
COHb,
F
MetHb and
F
HbF to determine the shift
'ac'.
NOTE:
The curves are used only to illustrate the principles of the ODC determination
