The QCX firmware required is version 1.06 and higher.

For the original QCX Classic, a CAT port must be added.
It is a simple circuit of 2 resistors, 1 diode, and a connector.

The schematic is in

Appendix A

.

Note: QCX Classic revision 5 already has the resistors and
diode included on the board. All you need is the connector.

If the SideKar

Decoder Edition

is ordered specifying the

QCX Classic as the rig, a free CAT Port Kit is included.

QCX+ and QCX

Mini’s already have the CAT port installed.

Nothing further is needed.

NOTE: The QCX must always be connected to the

“Rig – 5

Volt Serial Port

” port on the SideKar Decoder Edition NOT

the RS-232 port on the top. QRPworks is not responsible
for any damage to the SideKar Decoder Edition or the QCX if
the wrong serial port is used.

Elecraft KX3/KX2/K3/K3s Settings:

For the SideKar Decoder Edition to display transmitted
text, the KX3 firmware must be at MCU version 2.19 or
later.

•

Menu: RS232: set to 38400.

•

Menu: CW Key1 or K3/K3s CW PADL: set at tip-dot or

tip-dash, and not Hand. Plug your paddle directly into
the Key jack on the rig. The rig will only decode
transmitted text if the menu item CW Key 1/CW PADL is
