Unlike end devices, the FCoE switches do not send FIP Keep Alive messages.
Instead, FCoE switches send FIP Discovery Advertisement messages every eight
seconds, which notifies end devices that the switches are still present.
Figure 5-9
shows the time difference between two FIP Discovery Advertisements. Both the
E_Node and switch maintain the FCoE virtual link by sending FIP Keep Alive
messages every eight seconds and FIP Discovery Advertisements every eight
seconds.

Figure 5-10 shows a capture where the Jammer has removed all FIP Keep Alive
messages from the link after Keep Alive 3 message was sent. The Cisco switch
cleared the virtual link with a FIP Clear Virtual Link message 20 seconds after the
last FIP Keep Alive message. After that, the adapter logs out and initiates a new
login with the FIP FLOGI message.
