ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE LEG DRAIN HOLES ARE CLEAR WHEN THE
BOAT IS LAID UP FOR THE WINTER. WATER TRAPPED INSIDE THE
LEGS COULD FREEZE AND CAUSE THE LEGS TO SPLIT.
7.4 Bilge Drainage
The bilge pumps are activated both manually, by
switches in the helm station, and automatically, by a
float switch mounted near the rear pump and built
into the forward pump. The automatic float switches
remain activated when the battery switches are in the
“OFF” position and the batteries are connected. All
bilge pumps pump water out of thru-hulls located
above the waterline in the hull. The rear bilge pumps
and automatic switch are located near the transom,
below the engine splashwell, and the forward pump
is located in the bilge below the aft berth in the cabin.
The rear bilge pump system consists of two pumps
and an automatic float switch. One pump, that is fully automatic, is activated by the float switch.
There is no manual switch for this pump. The automatic float switch is activated by a “push to reset”
breaker on the TABS unit that is supplied current whenever the batteries are connected. The other
rear bilge pump is activated manually by the aft bilge switch in the helm. It is not activated
automatically by the float switch. The manual switch is supplied current when the house battery
switch is activated. It is protected by a breaker in the helm breaker panel.
The forward bilge pump is activated manually by the forward bilge switch in the helm and
automatically by a float switch built into the pump. The manual switch is supplied current when
the house battery switch is activated. It is protected by a breaker in the helm breaker panel. The
automatic float switch is activated by a “push to reset” breaker on the TABS unit that is supplied
current whenever the batteries are connected.
The manual bilge pumps should be activated briefly each time the boat is used. This will ensure
that they are operating properly and increase the service life of the pumps. The automatic switch
should be manually activated to verify operation.
Note: See Electrical Systems for additional information on bilge pump operation.
When the boat is out of the water the bilge can be drained by a thru-hull drain located in the transom
near the bottom of the hull. The plug should be removed whenever the boat is hauled out of the
water and installed just prior to launching. It is important to check the drain plug regularly to make
sure it is tight.
