3.20 Automatic Separation

This function enables the scanner to automatically differentiate between text areas
and photo areas, and scan them accordingly. Text areas are scanned in the binary
mode whereas photo areas are scanned using a Halftone (dither) pattern specified
in

Halftone (dither) in 3.5

IMPORTANT NOTES:
•

With some documents, it may not be possible to separate the text and photos
completely. When documents whose photo areas are invariably positioned in the
same places are to be scanned continuously, better results can be obtained by
using

Sub Area in 3.7

•

The Automatic Separation function is valid only in the binary mode. It cannot be
used at the same time as Noise Reduction, Sub Area, Automatic Threshold,
Dynamic Threshold, Automatic Binary/Color Distinction, MultiStream, Automatic
Crop or Deskew.
