Setting the Focus Mode (AFS/AFF/AFC)
Applicable modes:
The method for achieving focus when the shutter button is
pressed halfway is set.
Set the focus mode lever.
• When recording with [AFF] or [AFC], the camera predicts the motion of moving subjects to
bring them into focus. (Moving Object Prediction)
Applicable modes:
• This item works only when the Focus Mode is set to [AFF] or [AFC].

“AFS” is an abbreviation of “Auto Focus Single”.
The focus stays locked while the shutter button is
pressed halfway, so you can perform recording while
changing the composition.
[AFF]
Movement cannot
be predicted
(Children, pets, etc.)
“AFF” is an abbreviation of “Auto Focus Flexible”.
If the subject moves while the shutter button is
pressed halfway, the focus is readjusted automatically
according to the movement of the subject.
You can switch the setting with [AFS/AFF] in the [Rec]/[Motion Picture]
menu.
[AFC]
Subject is moving
(Sport, trains, etc.)
“AFC” is an abbreviation of “Auto Focus Continuous”.
In this mode, while the shutter button is pressed
halfway, focusing is constantly performed to match
the movement of the subject.

This is a basic general purpose setting.
[Set 2]
This is a setting suited for scenes where the subject moves in only one direction
at a constant speed.
[Set 3]
This is a setting suited for scenes where the subject moves in random directions
and obstacles are likely to appear in the image.
[Set 4]
This is a setting suited for scenes where the speed of the subject changes
significantly.
