9.6 DC-out
The DC-Out port (Figure 3.3 Left-side view) is used in conjunction with the
USB or the IEEE-1394 port to provide additional power. USB can only handle
500mA and 4-wire IEEE-1394 supports no power. When you use an external
hard disk, CD-RW or DVD-ROM the power for these devices goes over the DC-
Out port.
The DC-out port supports up to 2A, for greater current use an external adapter for the device.
Note:
Using the DC-out will take power from the main battery and reduce
battery life significantly.
Warning:
Only use PaceBlade approved accessory cables; otherwise your
Tablet may be damaged.
9.7 IEEE-1394
IEEE-1394 (Figure 3.3 Left-side view) is also known as FireWire (Apple) and i-
Link (SONY). This is a very high-speed port, often used for digital video
cameras. But this high speed port is also suitable for CD-RW, DVD-ROM, HDD,
networking, peer-to-peer connection, etc.
9.8 IR interface
The keyboard to the PaceBook uses infrared technology (IR) to communicate
with the main unit. This is a proprietary standard for the PaceBook. Other
accessories using this IR interface are also sold, including desktop keyboard,
wireless mice and remote controls.
9.9 Legacy ports
The PaceBook is fully compliant with PC2001 requirements. If you need to connect accessories
that use legacy communication ports like serial port, parallel port, and PS/2, you can do this
using the Port Replicator.
