Chapter 8 Power Management
Your PaceBook’s default power management configuration strikes a balance between
performance and battery life. For most users this setting will be most suitable for daily use.
However, you may choose to optimize your power management settings for better
performance or better battery life.
8.1 Power Options
Use Power Options to easily customize the power settings to suit your requirements. Power
Options includes some configurations that alter how and when certain system devices power
down in order to save power.
In general, the lower the time you enter, the longer the
battery life. You can choose among the various profiles or
customize your own profile.
Select Start -> Control Panel ->
1. Click the Performance and Maintenance icon
2. Click the Power Options
3. Select the appropriate profile or create your own
8.2 Auto insert for CD-ROM
Auto insert works by scanning the contents of CDs when
they are placed into the CD-ROM and then automatically
identifying what type of CD data is on it. You can then instruct Windows to take specific
actions; such as always opening the Media Player when an audio CD is inserted. The constant
polling of the CD-ROM drive that is required for auto insert to work drastically reduces battery
life. The PaceBook’s default configuration for CD-ROM auto insert is off.
To change the auto insert configuration, go to Start -> Control Panel
1. Double click the System icon and select the Device Manager tab
2. Double click the CDROM device and select the CD-ROM drive
3. Select the settings tab, check or uncheck “Auto-insert notification” to enable or
disable this feature
