Maximum posterior course of the weight bearing
line in the orthosis (measurement with the
L.A.S.A.R. Posture).
CAUTION
Risk of injury as a result of improper use.
Additional reinforcement of the unilateral system joint
bar (such as with carbon fiber reinforcement) will impede the dynamic properties of the material
and may compromise the function and stability of the orthosis as well as the patient’s safety.
Secure the screw connection (5, 6) with Loctite® 241.
Processing the UL System Joint Bar
The UL System Joint Bar serves for stability of the orthosis. It is adapted to the design of the UL
Knee Joint and UL Ankle Joint and is laminated in the orthosis to the maximum length possible.
The dynamic properties of the orthotic components can fully be made use of if the orthosis is
properly assembled. The holes in the system casing of the UL Knee Joint enable UL System Joint
Bar to be fixed temporarily for alignment and trial fitting of the orthosis. A thread hole is necessary
for attachment of the casing and must be made additionally in the UL System Joint Bar. When
delivering the orthosis, the UL System Joint Bar must be glued in place with 636W28 Special
Adhesive. The screws used previously may be removed because they have no holding function.
Adjustment of the UL System Joint Bar
Determine the length of the UL System Joint Bar and cut to the proper length
(Fig. 3)
. For adjust-
ment use the 711S1=9×7 Bending Irons
(Fig. 4)
. When adjusting, take care that the bending
radius is not less than 15 mm, as otherwise there is a danger that the bar could be broken. Grind
away surface imperfections such as grooves and burrs caused during shaping. To allow for
growth, we recommend positioning the UL System Joint Bar in the lower leg with overlap
(Fig. 5)
.
This enables the tibial section of the orthosis to be extended later by pulling out the tibial joint bar.
