Chapter 1 - System Description
1.3
Networking Equipment
The Base Station is connected to the backbone through standard data
communication and telecommunication equipment. The NPU aggregates the
traffic from all AUs, connecting to the backbone through a 100/1000 Base-T port.
The point-to-point link from the Base Station to the backbone can be either wired
or wireless.
1.4
Management Systems
The end-to-end IP-based architecture of the system enables full management of
all components, using standard management tools. An SNMP agent in the
NPU/Micro Base Station implements standard and proprietary MIBs for remote
setting of operational modes and parameters of the Base Station equipment as
well as the Subscriber Units served by it. Security features incorporated in
WiLink-I units restrict the access for management purposes.
In addition, the Ethernet WAN can be used to connect to other Operation Support
Systems including servers, Customer Care systems and AAA (Authentication,
Authorization and Admission) tools.
1.4.1
NetMaster
The NetMaster is a comprehensive Network Management System offering
centralized operational & maintenance for the complete range of network elements
in the Nera Networks product portfolio.
The NetMaster is built on the state of the art technology with scalable, cross
platform system that supports distributed network architecture.
NetMaster offers full range management of Nera network elements. NetMaster has
the ability to perform config.-, fault-, performance- and security- management.
NetMaster is the user interface to all Nera transmission and access products and
the key issue for the system is to present Nera management networks in the
simplest possible manner. The software has network auto-discovery and uses the
config. data in the NEs to automatically build the managed network. The various
elements and their attributes may be accessed using the intuitively graphical
presentation of the element and its components. NetMaster has a continuously
updated display of network status and network events are reported from the
elements using notifications. NetMaster has extensive database and context
sensitive help facilities that enable the user to analyse and report network events.
