Signal Processing
The following sections provide a brief description of the components of the signal
processing (SP) section of the radio cabinet. Signal processing prepares user data for
transmission at microwave frequencies. For a detailed descriptions each module, see the
individual module descriptions in Chapter 3.
Access Panel
The CM 100BaseT radio includes a front-access interface for data signal connections at
the top of the radio called the access panel. Access panel features include:
•
50-pin TELCO connector for 12DS1 signals
•
75-ohm BNC connectors for DS3 signals
•
Four RJ45 modular MDI/MDI-X connectors for 100Base-T data
•
Four fuses for RF PSU A and B, SP PSU A and B
•
DB9 connector to interface with a VT100/VT220 terminal or equiva-
lent DCE/DTE connection
•
4-position, 4-pin modular jack for orderwire handset
•
Two 6-position, 6-pin modular jacks to bridge the P4-based Network
Management System (or one 4-pin and one 8-pin for SNMP-based
NMS)
•
Six 4-position, 4-pin modular jacks for the service channels, the
orderwire, and bridge legs
•
4-position, 4-pin modular jack for the WTU DS1 channel
•
DB15 and DB25 connections for connecting external alarm and aux-
iliary TTL signals through the radio for network management
Note:
This list does not include unused connections. See Section 3-1, Radio Cabinet.
SP Modules
The signal processing (SP) chassis houses modules just below the access panel. SP
modules convert customer data to signals that can be transported at radio frequencies. A
single chassis supports protected and non-protected configurations. The A-side, or
primary, modules of a protected radio sit on the left side of the chassis and the B-side, or
secondary, modules on the right. Chapter 3 details each module.
Table 2-B lists SP shelf module requirements for the available configurations. Figure 2-2
shows the signal processing section of the radio shelf in protected configuration.
