Tyre damage
Tyre damage can, for example, be caused by:
R
the operating conditions of the vehicle
R
tyre ageing
R
kerbs
R
foreign objects
R
insufficient or excessive tyre pressure
R
weather conditions and environmental fac-
tors
R
contact with oil, grease, fuel, etc.
Tyre age
Tyres age, even if they are used infrequently or
not at all. Operating and road safety diminish
with age. For this reason have tyres more than
6 years old checked and, if necessary,
replaced at a qualified specialist workshop.
This also applies to the spare wheel.
Date of manufacture
:
informs you about the
age of a tyre. The first and second digits refer
to the week of manufacture, starting with "01"
for the first calendar week of the year. The
third and fourth digits refer to the year of man-
ufacture. A tyre that is marked "3818", for
example, was thus manufactured in the 38th
calendar week of 2018.
Tyre load-bearing capacity, tyre speed
rating and tyre types
G
WARNING
Exceeding the stated tyre load-bearing capa-
city and the approved maximum speed
could lead to tyre damage or the tyre burst-
ing. There is a risk of accident.
Therefore, only use tyre types and sizes
approved for your vehicle model. Observe
the tyre load rating and speed rating
required for your vehicle.
In particular, observe the country-specific per-
missible tyre specifications. These require-
ments may stipulate a specific tyre type for
your vehicle. In addition, the use of specific
tyre types may be advisable for certain regions
and areas of operation.
You can find further information regarding
tyres at specialist tyre retailers, at qualified
specialist workshops or at any Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre.
Replacing the tyres and retreaded
tyres
Replacing tyres
If replacing the standard tyres of your vehicle,
use only the tyre and wheel rim sizes approved
for your vehicle type.
Due to radial run-out of the wheels, the run-
ning characteristics of the wheels may be
impaired. Therefore, always have the vehicle
tyres changed at a qualified specialist work-
shop.
A tyre dealer, a qualified specialist workshop
or any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre will be
able to provide further information.
After replacing your tyres, carry with you the
vehicle's type approval for the new tyre and
wheel rim size as well as the manufacturer's
certification showing that the tyres may be
used on the vehicle. Observe the relevant legal
requirements for each country.
Any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre can pro-
vide information on obtaining a manufacturer's
certificate.
Retreaded tyres
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you only use
tyres and wheels which have been tested and
approved by Mercedes-Benz specifically for
your vehicle.
