Driver Airbag
If y o u r ve h icle is a d d itio n a lly
e q u ipp e d w ith a d riv e r a irbag, th is

“ S R S ” stam ped in to th e ste e rin g
w heel hub pad and by th e in d ic a to r
lam p “ S R S ” (S u p p le m e n ta l Re­
s tra in t System ) in th e in s tru m e n t
cluster.
The airb a g (1) is lo ca te d in the
s te e rin g w heel h u b and, in c o n ju n c ­
tio n w ith w e a rin g th e seat b e lts w ith
te n s io n in g re tra c to rs (2), p ro vid e s
increased p ro te c tio n fo r th e driver.
The o p e ra tio n a l readiness of the
s u p p le m e n ta l re s tra in t system (a ir­
bag and e m e rg e n cy te n s io n in g re­
tra c to r) is v e rifie d by th e in d ic a to r
lam p “ S R S ” (3) in th e in s tru m e n t
c lu s te r. W ith th e s te e rin g lo c k key
in p o s itio n 1 o r 2, th e in d ic a to r lam p
com es on fo r a b o u t 10 seconds then
g oes out. If it d o e s n ’t co m e on,
d o e s n ’t go o u t, flic k e rs on and off,
o r co m e s on w h ile d riv in g , the sys­
tem is m a lfu n c tio n in g .
T h is w ill n o t cause th e s u p p le m e n ­
tal re s tra in t system to be activated.
However, w e s tro n g ly recom m end
th a t you v is it an a u th o riz e d
MERCEDES-BENZ d e a le r im m e d i­
ately to have th e system ch e cke d ;
o th e rw is e th e “ S R S “ may n o t be ac­
tiv a te d in a severe fro n ta l accid e nt.
T he a irb a g is d e sig ne d to activate
o n ly in severe fro n ta l im p a cts (see
illu s tra tio n on page 34). O nly d u rin g
these types o f im p a c ts w ill it p ro ­
vide its s u p p le m e n ta l p ro te c tio n .
The d riv e r s h o u ld always w ear the
seat belt, o th e rw is e it is n o t pos­
s ib le fo r th e a irb a g to p ro v id e its
in te n d e d p ro te c tio n .
