Pretensioner
After the threads exit the tubes coming from the thread tree, the pretensioner rests on the threads
holding them for insertion into the selector carriage. If lint or other debris accumulates on the
pretensioner, the threads may not be held properly. To clean the pretensioner, perform these steps
two or three times a week, or if you are have thread splicing problems. Refer to Figure 5-5.
1. Turn the Advantage 18 OFF.
2. Move the selector carriage to the side.
3. Use a can of compressed air to blow away any lint or debris.
4. Lift the magnetic strip and clean it using the lint brush provided in the operator’s kit.
5. Clean the metal under the threads with a soft cloth and an alcohol wipe.
6. Replace the pretensioner and the embroidery threads.
7. Turn the Advantage 18 ON.
8. Rethread the machine.
Lubrication
Follow the schedules in each lubrication section to prolong the life of your machine. Any tools or
supplies needed are provided in the operator’s kit.
