Portable Data Terminal: Description
The meter, once installed into the field, can be programmed and communicated with, by a
portable data terminal (PDT), configured with the appropriate interface device and running
suitable software to allow communications. The handheld devices employed are Microsoft®
Windows® CE based computers, small, lightweight and rugged in design. The typical activities
carried out in the field with the handheld devices are to change rates (or other programmable
meter features), read and save the individual meter coin totals (audit) and transaction data, as
well as recording meter status/maintenance activities. At the end of the day’s maintenance or
data collection activities, the PDT is returned to its cradle for battery charging and data transfer.
Use of the PDT is beyond the scope of this manual, and additional information can be found in
the appropriate PDT documentation.
