System
The
Metropolis
®
ADM (Compact shelf) is a high-capacity intelligent
multiplexer and transport system that can multiplex EtherNET, PDH,
SONET and SDH bit rates to a higher level of 2.5 Gbps (STM-16).
Because of this wide range in capacity, this system is a useful element
in building efficient and flexible networks.
This very flexible product resulted from a great step forward in
technology. Owing to the high level of integration at circuit-pack
level, it is possible within one subrack to add/drop up to:
•
8
×
10/100 Base-T EtherNET LAN interface
•
252
×
1.5 Mbps
•
252

2 Mbps
•

34/45 Mbps
•

•
20

GbE LAN interface
The
Metropolis
®
ADM (Compact shelf) is a multiplexer and transport
system that multiplexes a broad range of plesiochronous and
synchronous signals into 2.5 Gbps (STM-16) or 620 Mbps (STM-4).
The method used to map the interface signals complies with the AU-4
mapping procedure specified by ITU-T. A special circuit pack is
available to support AU-3 (SONET) mapped signals and another
special interface (UNI) converts EtherNET signals into SDH virtual
containers.
The system can be used as an add/drop multiplexer, a terminal
multiplexer or a small IP switch. The system provides built-in
cross-connect facilities and flexible-interface circuit packs.
Local and remote management and control facilities are provided via
the Q interface and the F interface and the embedded communication
channels (DCC). The cross-connect circuit pack is the core of the
Metropolis
®
ADM (Compact shelf) system.
