Troubleshooting Chart
Apparent Problem… Explanation… Steps to take…
The power switch on the GFS-2 has
been switched on but no activity is
seen on the switch.
There may be a problem
with the electrical power to
the switch or the switch
may still be booting.
1. Ensure the switch is connected to a standard
AC power outlet.
2. Check fans see if they are running
3. Wait 5-7 minutes to see if the switch was
booting.
A console session cannot be
established with the switch. The serial cable may be
damaged or the terminal
settings may be incorrect.
1. Make sure only the SANcastle provided
serial cable is used to access the switch.
2. Use VT-100 Emulation for Win2k
3. Refer to the GFS Product Family User
Manual, Chapter 2 for terminal client
configuration settings.
The response lags when trying to ping
the switch.
Ping frames have a lower
priority for processing then
data frames and will be put
into the CPU processing
queue while higher priority
data frames are being
processed.
Make sure there is no traffic on the switch.
